Updated: Website is now back up and running again. Will be making further tweaks and improvements over the next few weeks so stay tuned!!

Webesite Temporarily down :(

Hi Folks, It has come to my attention that my website suddenly went and dropped every piece of CSS it had and looks like a kids science project gone wrong at the moment.

This is a temporary re-direct, hoping to have it back up and running as soon as I can.
In the mean time a lot of the same content is available on this blogspot and should anyone wish to get in touch with a booking enquiry the details are all above in the header.

Laura Mercier Custom Artist Portfolio

So, I went a little bit make up mad last weekend and decided to splash out on make up for ME (as opposed to sensible stuff for my kit). A shopping trip with my sis to help her replenish her make up bag ended with an exercise in pure indulgence.

Now I had a perfectly sensible personal make up bag (vanity case-type-thing) but last Christmas I met one of my clients who had managed to get her hands on this beauty. I was in awe of it at the time, obsessed a bit, tried to get hold of one online, ya know, all the sensible things one does, but had no luck. So when I saw it in Brown Thomas last week I had to have it, and now I have to share it with you all.

The Custom Artist Portfolio for Home and Away includes:
Portfolio Organizer
4 removable mesh bags
Double-sided pocketed brush page
6-well custom compact
3-well custom compact
Dimensions: 11.5” x 9.5” x 3”

How to wash your make up brushes

One question I'm always getting asked in the course of my work is how do I clean and keep my brushes in good condition. I've literally spent a small fortune on brushes over the past six years, each tiny little tool costing quite a bit so its vital that they last.
So I thought I'd share my secrets with you all.

Step 1 -What you'll need

Firstly, well a whole lot of dirty brushes like these.
Secondly a mild shampoo
Thirdly some dishwasher soap, I prefer fairy liquid but anything that's good at cutting grease will do

Step 2 - The how to of it all...

Note: Shampoo works better on natural fiber brushes, for synthetic brushes, especially those with emolient based products like lipstick, gloss, concealor, etc... on them sometimes you will need to add in a bit of wash up liquid to cut through the grease in the product.

Place the brush head down into a stream of hot water.
Dip into shampoo and create a lather by swirling the brush around in your hand. Treat your brushes like mini heads of hair, be gentle, if the brush is particularly dirty, repeat this until the water runs clean, don't smash the hairs of the brush trying to get product out.

Ensure that you keep the brushes pointed down at all times, this is so water won't enter the area called the ferrule (where the brush hairs are glued together) and weaken the bonds.

Step 3 - Drying

Ideally you should allow your brushes to dry over night in a well ventilated area. Don't place them on a heater as again this could weaken the glue.
Once your brush is clean, reshape the brush gently with your hands.
Lay it flat on a piece of tissue paper and leave it to dry.

Competition time! - Sure Motion Sense

I was recently sent a sample of the new Sure Motion sense range to test out (god I love testing things :)). I have always been loyal to my classic Sure Pink deoderant, not even straying into the newer technologys,  I had one that worked and I was sticking to it, no roll ons, no crystals etc..
But in the interests of reviewing it properly I decided to go out of my comfort zone and try the roll on in the cotton fragrance. Gotta say I was impressed, it stood up to a very hectic weekend, lasted all day and I remained fresh as a erm.. fresh smelling thing.
Heres the deets....

Sure MotionSense™ is one step ahead of perspiration
New Microcapsules respond directly to Irish Women on the move
Sure, Ireland’s number one deodorant brand, stays one step ahead of perspiration this summer with Sure Motion Sense™, a new innovative and exclusive patented technology that responds directly to movement. Designed with busy Irish women on the move in mind, Sure Motion Sense™ offers 48 hour  protection to ensure women feel fresher for longer.
Sure for Women’s ground breaking formula contains Micro-Capsules that sit on the surface of the skin, underarm friction caused as a result of movement, causes the micro-capsules to explode and release little bursts of freshness throughout the day.  Sure MotionSense contains twice as many odour fighting microcapsules as other antiperspirants, so no matter how much movement, Sure is one micro-capsule ahead.
Work, play, night, day; woman on the move can stay fresh with Sure for Women’s MotionSense. Sure Motion Sense™ provides 48 hour protection and is available in both aerosol and roll on format.

Illamasqua the final act of self expression

Just came accross this on http://www.beautyandthedirt.com (original article Illamasqua’s Final Act)

Cult make up brand Illamasqua have teamed up with London funeral directors Leverton and Sons and are now offering a unique make up service for the dearly departed
 Described as an:
“innovative service bringing ritual beauty to the final act for those who love to self-express”.
While completely morbid I can see the appeal in this for those whose identy is tied up in their self expression through make up. Its actually something I've always worried about myself (I know its a totally ridiculous issue) but being a make up artist I'm fussy about my make up, I won't even let counter staff demo products on me, so what if, god forbid, something happened and I was laid to rest forever with badly matched foundation / too much blusher. Likewise I can immagine that someone who was goth/punk/emo wouldn't want their look/personality erased in the end either.

That said I don't think its a line of work I will be getting into anytime soon.... and now i'm off to look for pictures of animals doing funny things cause this is all too serious
